Drum Set Selection Guide

When it comes to picking out a drum set (or drum “kit” if you want to sound like a pro), the first thing to figure out is whether you want an acoustic kit or an electronic kit that plugs in and runs through an amp or speaker.

Acoustic Drums

Acoustic drums are probably what you picture when you think of a drummer rocking out on stage. They’re the real deal—loud, powerful, and the choice for most live rock bands. The catch? They’re loud. If you’ve got close neighbors or don’t want to wake up the whole house, you might want to look at an electronic drum set.

Electronic Drums

Electronic drums give you a lot more volume control. Just twist the knob to play as soft or as loud as you like—or plug in headphones for practice that won’t bug anyone. You will need an amp or speaker to hear them out loud, but that’s part of the fun.
